A Mushroom Cultivation Training Programme organised by the Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action on March 24, 2026, witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers and aspiring entrepreneurs, highlighting the growing interest in sustainable and income-generating agricultural practices.

The programme saw the participation of around 30 farmers, with expert support from Surya Agrotek, a complete mushroom solution centre. The initiative aimed at equipping participants with practical skills and knowledge to adopt mushroom cultivation as a viable livelihood option.

Focus on Sustainable Farming Practice

The programme was inaugurated by Dr A G Pandurangan, Advisor, CISSA, who emphasised the importance of innovative and sustainable farming practices to enhance farmers’ income and ensure livelihood security.

Technical Insights and Government Support

During the technical session, Smt Rejatha delivered an informative presentation on mushroom cultivation, covering its nutritional and economic benefits. She also highlighted various government schemes and subsidies available to support farmers in establishing mushroom farming enterprises.

Hands-on Training and Practical Exposure

The practical sessions were led by Ajay from Surya Agrotek, who provided detailed guidance on different mushroom varieties, cultivation techniques, and best management practices.

A comprehensive hands-on demonstration was conducted on scientific methods of mushroom cultivation, covering key stages such as bed preparation, spawning (seeding), and maintenance. Participants actively engaged in each step under expert supervision, gaining valuable practical exposure and confidence to start their own ventures.

The training programme proved to be highly interactive and effective, equipping participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Beyond knowledge sharing, it served as a motivational platform encouraging farmers to explore mushroom cultivation as a low-cost, sustainable, and profitable enterprise.

CISSA continues to organise such capacity-building initiatives to promote entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, and rural development, empowering farmers with innovative solutions for improved income and food security.
